SBSSU hosts thrilling Chess Championship
Ferozepur, September 9, 2026: Continuing the vibrant momentum of the "Annual Intra-Year University Sports Competition 2026" at Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur, an exciting Chess Competition was organized under the visionary guidance of Vice Chancellor Dr. Suresh Kumar Sharma and Registrar Dr. Rajiv Arora. Boys and girls participated in these competitions with great enthusiasm, attracting more than 40 boys and girls.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sharma said sports play an important role in shaping students’ personality and character. He added that while sports promote physical fitness, games like chess sharpen intellectual abilities, strategic thinking and decision-making skills.
Registrar Dr. Rajiv Arora described chess as much more than a game, saying it develops strategic thinking, patience and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure. He appreciated the enthusiasm of the participants and encouraged students to maintain a healthy balance between academic excellence and sportsmanship. Sports President Dr. Arun Kumar Asati also urged students to participate in university sports activities in maximum numbers.
The tournament was smoothly conducted with the dedicated efforts of Sports In-Charge (Girls) Ms. Navdeep Kaur Jhajj and Sports In-Charge (Degree-Boys) Mr. Talwinder Singh. Chess Event In-Charge Mr. Chakshu Goel also played an important role in ensuring the successful conduct of the competition.
Public Relations Officer, Dr. Gazalpreet Arneja said, in the boys’ category, Aaradhya Wadhwa of B.Tech CSE, 1st Year, secured the first position, followed by Jaskaran Singh of Diploma EE, 2nd Year, in second place, while Naveen Kumar of B.Tech EE, 2nd Year, finished third. In the girls’ category, Rashandeep Kaur of B.Tech CSE, 1st Year, bagged the first position. Harmandeep Kaur of B.Tech CSE, 2nd Year, secured the second position, while Gurleen of B.Tech CSE, 2nd Year, stood third.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Suresh Kumar Sharma and Registrar Dr. Rajiv Arora congratulated the winners and all participants and appreciated the university’s sports team for organizing the competition successfully.
