National Lok Adalat settles 16,726 cases in Ferozepur; matters settled through mutual consent
Ferozepur, September 12, 2026: A National Lok Adalat was organised across the courts in Ferozepur district on Saturday under the directions of the National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, and the Punjab State Legal Services Authority, Mohali. The Lok Adalat was held under the guidance of District and Sessions Judge, Sumeet Malhotra.
As many as 21,194 cases were taken up, of which 16,726 cases were disposed of through mutual settlement between the parties.
A total of 14 benches were constituted across the district. Of these, 10 benches were set up in the courts of the Ferozepur Sessions Division, one at the Permanent Lok Adalat, one at Zira and two at Guruharsahai.
A wide range of cases were taken up, including civil cases, compoundable criminal cases, cheque-bounce matters, recovery cases, traffic challans, matrimonial and domestic disputes, cancellation reports, untraced reports, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal cases and pre-litigation matters.
Pre-litigation cases involving bank recoveries, private finance companies, mobile and telephone companies were also settled with the mutual consent of the parties.
To facilitate visitors and provide information, the District Legal Services Authority, Ferozepur, set up a help desk at the public entry gate of the District Court Complex. Similar help desks were also established at Zira and Guruharsahai.
The authority said that cases decided through the Lok Adalat cannot be challenged by way of an appeal. The award passed by a Lok Adalat has the status of a decree and provides parties with speedy and amicable resolution of disputes, helping them avoid prolonged litigation and associated mental stress. The Lok Adalat follows the principle that there is no winner or loser, as both parties settle their disputes amicably and leave satisfied.
