Bhagat Singh Foundation chief alleges police inaction despite abduction, torture in Lahore
Lahore/Ferozepur, September 13, 2026: Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi, Chairman of the Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation Pakistan, has voiced strong anger over the failure of the Mizang Police Station in Lahore to register an FIR in connection with his alleged abduction and torture on September 3, despite having formally lodged a complaint with the police.
According to Qureshi's complaint, the incident took place around 8:00 p.m. on September 3, when he was returning home. As he reached near MAO College from Jain Mandir, a black luxury car pulled up beside him. The occupants allegedly called him over on the pretext of asking for directions. As he approached, three to four unidentified armed men reportedly forced him into the vehicle, blindfolded him, and subjected him to severe physical torture.
Qureshi sustained a deep head injury in the assault, and his hearing on the left side was reportedly affected. He also bears visible marks of violence on other parts of his body. During the ordeal, the attackers allegedly threatened him repeatedly, telling him, "You will now be taught a lesson for working on Bhagat Singh. You are an agent of India, an enemy of Pakistan, and India is providing you foreign funding." He was further warned that continuing his work related to Bhagat Singh's mission and legacy could cost him his life.
Following the assault, the accused reportedly took him to the area near Maqbara Jahangir Road, Shahdara, where they abandoned him before fleeing.
In his written complaint, Qureshi requested the police to register an FIR against the unidentified armed assailants under relevant legal provisions and to initiate strict action. He also sought an immediate medical examination and preparation of a Medico-Legal Certificate (MLC) through the competent authority, along with a fair, transparent and thorough investigation to trace and arrest those responsible. He further requested that all available CCTV footage and electronic evidence related to the incident be secured and preserved as part of the probe.
Citing the serious threats made against him and fears for his life and safety, Qureshi also sought appropriate legal protection.
However, despite these appeals, no action has reportedly been taken by the police so far. Qureshi has now decided to approach the competent court to seek justice.
