Punjabi First: DC orders Govt, Private Institutions to use Punjabi first on boards

Fazilka (Punjab), September 16, 2026: Following directions of the Punjab Government, Fazilka Deputy Commissioner has ordered all government and private institutions in the district to display their boards and nameplates in Punjabi in Gurmukhi script.
The order, issued in accordance with instructions from the Punjab Government’s Higher Education and Languages Department (Education Cell), covers government, semi-government and private offices, departments, institutions, educational institutions, boards and corporations.
It also applies to non-government organisations, public and private shops, commercial establishments, roads, nameplates, milestones and signboards. According to the directions, if the information is displayed in any other language, it must be written after the Punjabi version in Gurmukhi script.
The Deputy Commissioner directed heads of all departments, branches and offices in Fazilka district to ensure strict compliance with the instructions.
