MLAs Bhullar and Sarari inaugurated Punjab State Inter-District School Cricket Championship for U-19 Girls
Ferozepur, September 22, 2026: The state-level cricket championship for Under-19 girls began with great enthusiasm in Ferozepur on Tuesday as part of the 70th Punjab State Inter-District School Games 2026-27.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Ferozepur Urban MLA Ranbir Singh Bhullar and Guru Har Sahai MLA Fauja Singh Sarari as chief guests. The games were formally inaugurated after the chief guests unfurled the flag.
The championships are being organised by the School Education Department, Punjab, under the guidance of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, with the objective of promoting sports among students and providing young athletes with opportunities to hone their talent.
District Education Officer (Secondary Education), Ferozepur, Munila Arora, welcomed the chief guests, players, coaches, teachers and other guests. She said school sports play an important role in the overall development of students by promoting confidence, discipline, team spirit and a healthy competitive attitude.
Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary Education) Dr Satinder Singh, National Awardee, thanked the guests, officials, teachers, coaches and players. He said the state-level championship would be held from September 22 to 25, 2026, with Under-19 girls' cricket teams from different districts of Punjab participating.
He added that the Ferozepur district administration had made adequate arrangements to provide necessary facilities to the participating teams and players and to ensure the smooth conduct of the championship.
MLA Ranbir Singh Bhullar extended his best wishes to the participating players and said sports were essential for the physical and mental development of students. He said girls from Punjab were continuously making their mark in the field of sports and urged all teams to participate in the championship with true sporting spirit.
MLA Fauja Singh Sarari also wished the players success and said sports inculcate discipline, hard work, perseverance and team spirit. He encouraged students to participate actively in sports along with their studies.
According to DM Sports Akash Kumar and Lecturer Dalbir Singh, several matches were played on the opening day. In the first match, Kapurthala set a target of 101 runs, while Pathankot scored 72 runs in reply. In the second match, Gurdaspur scored 125 runs, with Sangrur managing 100 runs in response. In the third match, Bathinda scored 169 runs, while Sri Amritsar Sahib could score only 37 runs. Matches in the second session continued after lunch.
