Jhinjar accuses AAP of fabricating allegations, seeks CBI probe into Bahrain woman controversy

Ghanaur (Punjab), September 23, 2026: Youth Akali Dal national president and Ghanaur constituency in-charge Sarabjit Singh Jhinjar on Wednesday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of making false and baseless allegations against him and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter.
Jhinjar was responding to allegations raised by AAP Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu regarding a Bahrain-based woman and the circumstances surrounding her stay at an SGPC-run sarai in Sri Anandpur Sahib. Pannu had questioned Jhinjar's alleged role in bringing the woman to Punjab.
Jhinjar denied having ever met the woman and described the allegations as politically motivated. He alleged that the AAP leadership was attempting to damage his reputation after failing to silence his criticism of the state government.
“My only ‘mistake’ is that I remain available to the public 24 hours a day. Whenever someone misses my call, I call back to know their problem and try to get it resolved,” Jhinjar said, alleging that his accessibility to people was being portrayed as part of a conspiracy.
Jhinjar also linked the allegations to his recent criticism of Dr Gurpreet Kaur, alleging that he had earlier accused her of taking ₹5 crore to settle a rape case. He claimed that subsequent attempts were made to persuade him politically and that, after these efforts failed, allegations were levelled against him to tarnish his image.
These claims could not be independently verified.
Jhinjar further alleged that the latest accusations were being used to divert attention from other political developments in Punjab, including Enforcement Directorate searches at offices of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA). He described the timing as significant and alleged that the accusations against him were intended to shift public attention.
He demanded that the matter be investigated by the CBI and sought an inquiry under the supervision of a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, arguing that an investigation involving state political leaders should be conducted independently.
Jhinjar said he was ready to cooperate with any investigation and urged the people of Ghanaur not to draw conclusions based solely on the allegations being exchanged between political parties.
The controversy follows allegations and counter-allegations surrounding a Bahrain-based woman, former Shiromani Akali Dal leader and SGPC member Amarjit Singh Chawla, and others. An FIR has been reported in connection with the woman's allegations, which Chawla has denied. AAP's Baltej Pannu has publicly questioned the roles of several Akali leaders, including Jhinjar, in the episode.
