SBSSU-SLIET joint workshop promotes 'Entrepreneurship and Startup Culture'
Ferozepur, September 26, 2026: Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University (SBSSU), Ferozepur, organised a two-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Workshop in collaboration with Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET), Longowal, on September 24 and 25. The programme was jointly organised by the Departments of Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering to encourage an entrepreneurial mindset, innovation and startup initiatives among students.
The workshop was held under the guidance of Prof. Suresh Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SBSSU, and coordinated by Dr. Pankaj Kalra, Head, Department of Chemical Engineering, and Dr. Manjindar Singh, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Prof. Sanjeev Bansal, Department of Management and Humanities and Prof. Gulshan Kumar Jawa, Department of Chemical Engineering, from SLIET, served as resource persons. Through interactive sessions, they familiarised students with market feasibility, identification of business opportunities, product selection, sustainable business ideas, startup planning, creativity and business leadership.
Prof. Sanjeev Bansal spoke on inculcating the spirit of entrepreneurship, market analysis and feasibility studies, qualities of a successful entrepreneur and barriers to startups. Prof. Gulshan Kumar Jawa addressed topics related to identifying business opportunities, product selection, developing sustainable business ideas, converting an idea into a startup, creativity and business leadership.
A special brainstorming session on startups enabled students to present, discuss and refine their entrepreneurial ideas. The workshop concluded with an interactive discussion and feedback session, during which students sought guidance from the experts on their ideas and entrepreneurial aspirations.
Dr. Pankaj Kalra said entrepreneurship was not limited to starting a business but also involved identifying problems, recognising opportunities and developing meaningful solutions. He stressed the importance of such initiatives in nurturing innovators, problem-solvers and potential job creators.
The workshop was also the first academic activity jointly organised by SBSSU and SLIET following the signing of an MoU between the two institutions. The initiative is expected to further strengthen academic collaboration in innovation, entrepreneurship, research and academic exchange.
