New Delhi, September 27, 2026: Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma was seen slapping a man who was filming during a road inspection in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar, according to a video of the incident that surfaced on Sunday.
The incident occurred during a heated exchange between Verma and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jarnail Singh over the quality of road construction in the area. The man who was filming was identified as Sahib Singh, an aide handling the MLA’s social media activities, according to reports.
The video shows Verma pulling down the man’s mobile phone before appearing to slap him. The two briefly confront each other before a security guard intervenes and separates them.
The confrontation began during the road inspection, when Jarnail Singh questioned the quality of the newly laid road. The AAP MLA pulled up a portion of the road surface by hand and showed pieces of it to the minister, alleging that the construction was of poor quality.
The two leaders then exchanged remarks over the road work. Verma said the previous government had failed to build roads during its tenure, while Singh questioned the durability of the ongoing work.
As Verma began leaving the spot, Singh continued following him while Sahib Singh was recording the exchange. The video then shows Verma turning towards Singh and striking him.
Speaking to ANI, Sahib Singh alleged that he was live-streaming the interaction when Verma pulled the phone from his hand and slapped him. He also alleged that security personnel accompanying the minister pushed and threatened him. Singh said he had filed a police complaint.
AAP leaders have criticised Verma over the incident and demanded action. The allegations regarding the quality of the road work have also been raised by the AAP MLA and party leaders.
The incident comes amid a political dispute between the BJP-led Delhi government and the AAP over road infrastructure and construction quality in the capital.
