Chandigarh, October 18, 2026: Chuspinder Chahal, who was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the alleged corruption case involving recommendations for arms licences and the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), on Sunday alleged that the case was part of a conspiracy to defame Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Speaking to the media outside the CBI office, Chahal said the allegation against him concerned recommending an ordinary citizen for an arms licence. He maintained that making such a recommendation was not a crime in itself and argued that wrongdoing would arise if a bribe had been sought or a financial benefit received in return.
Chahal claimed that the person he had recommended was an ordinary citizen and not a gangster or terrorist. He also accused the BJP government of attempting to tarnish the image of Mann and his team. These were his allegations and were not independently established.
Chahal was called to the CBI office on Sunday but was allowed to leave after a short period, according to the supplied report. Earlier, Rajvir Ghuman, an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) associated with the Chief Minister’s Office, had reportedly been questioned by the agency for around six hours.
The CBI has registered a first information report (FIR) in the case, naming six people, including Ghuman, according to the supplied report. The investigation concerns alleged corruption linked to recommendations for arms licences.
Ghuman has approached the Supreme Court in connection with the matter, and his arrest has reportedly been put on hold. The CBI is continuing its investigation and questioning people connected with the case.
The allegations remain subject to investigation, and the claims made by Chahal should be considered in that context.
