Chandigarh/Amritsar, October 26: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled two alleged illegal arms supply networks with the arrest of four individuals, including two juveniles, and recovered 16 pistols and seven live cartridges, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Monday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Anmol Singh alias Mohla (19), a resident of Naushehra Dhalla village in Tarn Taran, and Hardeep Singh alias Shiv (18), a resident of Chella village in Tarn Taran. Two other individuals apprehended in the cases are juveniles.
According to preliminary investigations, the accused were allegedly in contact with a foreign-based handler who facilitated illegal arms consignments. The weapons were allegedly being distributed further to criminal elements through an organised network, the DGP said.
Police have recovered three 9mm Glock pistols, one .30-bore pistol made in China, one .30-bore X-Shot pistol, one .30-bore PX-5 Storm pistol, nine other .30-bore pistols and one country-made .32-bore pistol. A Honda Activa scooter was also impounded.
Sharing details of the operations, Amritsar Commissioner of Police Harmanbir Singh Gill said the first recovery was made after police received specific intelligence about the movement of illegal weapons.
A police team intercepted a juvenile riding an Activa scooter within the jurisdiction of Cantonment police station and recovered six pistols and seven live cartridges from his possession.
In the second operation, police from Gate Hakima police station apprehended Anmol Singh alias Mohla and a juvenile associate, recovering five .30-bore pistols. During the subsequent investigation, police arrested another alleged accomplice, Hardeep Singh alias Shiv, and recovered five more pistols based on disclosures made by the accused. The total recovery in the second case stood at 10 pistols, Gill said.
Two separate cases have been registered in connection with the recoveries. FIR No. 196, dated October 17, 2026, was registered under Section 25(8) of the Arms Act at Cantonment police station. FIR No. 315, dated October 21, 2026, was registered under Sections 25(6), 25(7) and 25(8) of the Arms Act at Gate Hakima police station.
