Majithia accuses Kejriwal of linking DA case to drug allegations, challenges AAP Govt to produce evidence

Chandigarh, October 28, 2026: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Wednesday accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal of misleading Punjabis by portraying the disproportionate assets (DA) case against him as a drug trafficking case. He challenged the Punjab government to produce concrete evidence to substantiate its allegations.
Addressing a press conference, Majithia alleged that the AAP leadership was attempting to divert public attention from Punjab’s law-and-order situation and other pressing issues by repeatedly linking his case to drug trafficking.
He recalled Kejriwal’s apology in 2018 over allegations against him related to drugs and accused the AAP leadership of reviving similar claims for political gains.
Majithia claimed that the proceedings before the Supreme Court had raised questions about the government’s allegations. He said the government should place any evidence linking him to drug trafficking before the court rather than rely on public statements.
“My lawyer has presented all the facts before the court and separated truth from falsehood,” Majithia said, referring to his counsel, D.S. Sobti. He claimed that no direct or indirect link between him and the drug case had been established.
Majithia also questioned the alleged connection between him and ₹736 crore in drug money, claiming that the government had failed to establish it with concrete evidence. He further alleged that four special investigation teams (SITs) had been constituted to pursue the allegations against him but had not proved the charges he was contesting.
He accused the government of presenting different versions of the case in court and in public statements, and challenged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP leadership to make any evidence supporting the drug trafficking allegations public.
Lawyer says DA and drug cases must be examined separately
Sobti said the disproportionate assets case and the drug case should not be presented as one and the same matter. He argued that documents or financial transactions cited in the DA case could not automatically be treated as evidence of drug trafficking without examining their legal status and the relevant court record.
He also referred to the bail provisions under Section 37 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and said the court orders and proceedings needed to be considered while assessing the claims being made publicly.
Questioning figures cited in connection with properties and financial transactions, Sobti said the amounts should be examined against the relevant chargesheets and court documents. He argued that the source of transactions, their connection with Majithia and the legal basis for describing any income as illegal needed to be established.
He also questioned claims concerning a supplementary chargesheet, saying the actual position should be determined from the court record.
Majithia raises questions over Daljit Singh case
During the press conference, Majithia played a video and questioned the government over the circumstances in which Daljit Singh’s body was taken away and cremated.
Referring to the footage, he alleged police excesses against Sikh youths and disrespectful treatment of the bodies. He also alleged that Amritdhari Sikhs had been insulted.
Majithia said the government should answer questions concerning drugs, law and order and other issues in Punjab instead of repeatedly raising his case.
He maintained that he was prepared to face investigation and legal proceedings and challenged the AAP government to substantiate its allegations through evidence presented in accordance with the law. He said the government should either prove its claims or apologise.
