Amritsar (Punjab), October 28, 2026: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers staged a protest against Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leader Bikram Singh Majithia in Majitha on Wednesday, burning his effigy and raising slogans over the drug-related case against him.
Led by AAP Majitha constituency in-charge Talbir Singh Gill, the protesters raised slogans including “Chitte Da Vyaapaari Murdabad” and “Gangsters De Janamdata Nu Jail Bhejo”, demanding accountability over the alleged drug trade in Punjab.
The protest comes after the filing of a chargesheet spanning more than 40,000 pages in the case against Majithia. AAP leaders claimed that the investigation had brought ₹736 crore in suspected drug money and financial transactions under scrutiny.
Addressing the media, Gill said the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government had taken legal action against Majithia and asserted that the case should proceed on the basis of evidence presented before the court.
He accused the previous Congress government led by Captain Amarinder Singh of failing to take decisive action against Majithia despite a report submitted by police officer Harpreet Singh Sidhu.
Gill alleged that political connections had prevented action during the previous government, while the present government had pursued the case through the legal process.
Responding to Majithia’s statements, Gill said the allegations and counterclaims surrounding the case should be assessed against the evidence and financial transactions under investigation.
He also claimed that residents of Majitha were no longer living under the atmosphere of fear and intimidation that he alleged had prevailed in the constituency for years. Gill said people would hold political leaders accountable in the coming elections.
Jeevan Jyot Kaur targets BJP-Majithia ties
AAP MLA Jeevan Jyot Kaur also criticised the alleged political understanding between Majithia and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that their association could have serious implications for Punjab.
Kaur said the chargesheet and the financial transactions under investigation raised questions that needed to be addressed through the legal process. She maintained that the Bhagwant Mann government would not bow to political pressure in pursuing the case.
She also raised concerns about drug supplies entering Punjab, alleging that routes from Gujarat had become a serious issue even as the state government worked to curb the inflow of drugs across the Pakistan border.
Claiming that the BJP and Majithia were working towards forming a government in Punjab, Kaur urged people to remain alert to their political moves. She said the state could not afford to let political interests undermine efforts to tackle drug abuse and protect young people.
The AAP leaders reiterated that the government was committed to pursuing drug-related cases and said the legal process should determine the outcome of the allegations against Majithia.
