Leveraging the age old concept of citizen-centric services, a new feat of success has been attained by the state of Punjab. The concept of Sewa Kendras was originated way back in 2005 by Captain Amarinder Singh, Honorable Chief Minister of Punjab. With intent to carry out this dream project of Honorable Chief Minister, BLS has stepped in the said domain in August 2016, and over the years, 2147 Sewa Kendras has managed across the state. This milestone is a sheer indication of the government support and extent of trust that the people of Punjab have in their government. Not only this, it is also reported that more than 70 lakh applications are already accepted across the state in these Sewa Kendras since incorporation.
Considering the triumphant tale of Sewa Kendras in Punjab, transparency and probity in administration is always requisite. Practising this not only helps an organization to abide by the government set of laws but also helps in limiting the inclination towards inducement in the said filed. In a country like India, bureaucratic complexities and corruption has been a serious peril. Hence, execution of systematic changes in the policies is always very considerate under such situations.
The primary purpose of governance is the welfare of citizens. Punjab is known for the best quintessence of e-governance success in India. What set all the Kendras apart in the state is their easy accessibility within 2 kms – 3 kms. Being the single point-of-contact for citizens of Punjab, all the Sewa Kendras are set up here in a close proximity fulfilling the various government related documentation needs of the people with ease. And to render these services with an enriched customer experience, a blend of advanced technology, trained workforce and rigorous training are always in practice in all these Kendras. Some of the leading attributes of Punjab Sewa Kendras include services related to marriage registration, affidavit attestation, bus passes, payment of electricity bill, identity card services and various other services being stated under the Punjab Right to Services Act, 2011.

Keeping in mind the prevalent corruption in government practices, incorporation of some of the imperative measures like Social Audits, Right to Information, Report Cards and Citizens’ Charters has been the stepping stone in these Sewa Kendras, which has helped the organization in holding back the corruption and red tape in governance practices. Today, people of Punjab not only visit these centres to get their various government needs done, but they truly believe that all their work will be carried out here without the intervention of any middlemen and bribery. Thus, it can be said that besides being an accountable and translucent service provider of various government services in the state, the dream project of Captain Amarinder Singh has evenly been impactful in exterminating the practice of corruption to a great extent.
