Why are we sharing hatred?
Citizenship Act of 1955 had no ground of citizenship on the basis of religion to illegal immigrants but today it’s being amended and the Citizenship Bill of 2019 has been passed in the Lok Sabha with 311 votes in its favour and 80 votes against it.
Motive behind this can be understood by the person whose mind is neutral and not being governed by religious fanaticism or chauvinism only if he or she wants. And of course if there is love for the country, for the country which is not giving enough employment to youth, which has poorest of the poor and richest of riches living in it, the country to which nature gave immense diversification but which is viciously divided in classes and castes.
The country which raises no voice when the doubt arises against characters of those persons who are considered symbols of peace in the world, will easily go through this transition and will allow anybody to change its identity and character.
Because if you are hungry and are not secure then you can’t think about other things and for that our politicians are expert, that how to keep the people like dogs who wag their tails when they see the food.
Seriously, the day has come that sensitive people should leave the country if they can afford and let the dumb people rule the country. I am not from any opposition party or neither I am rightist but I am in the favour of secularism, equality and fraternity the feelings which are imbibed in our constitution.
The preamble of our constitution which defines the purpose of our constitution says “India is a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic” and it secures to all its citizens justice, social, economic and political, liberty -- of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship, equality -- of status and of opportunity.
But if the person who killed Mahatma Gandhi can be called desh bhagat then there is no big deal that Bhimrao Ambedkar ji can also be put in the category of a particular caste and constitution given by him can be questioned. Rather this is happening. Our present Citizenship Act of 2019 is going to kill its soul.
During the partition of 1947, several citizens of undivided India of various religions were staying in the regions of Pakistan and Bangladesh. The constitutions of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh have provisions for specific religion.
According to our present government, many persons belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities have faced discriminations on grounds of religion in these countries.
Many fled to India and continued to stay in India. According to the new citizenship bill, illegal migrants who have entered India till the cut off date of December 31, 2014 shall be granted the certificate of registration or certificate of naturalisation and they may be given the citizenship of India from the date of their entry in India if they belong to only those above mentioned six religions.
Recently, Rohingya Muslims have been fleeing to India and taking refuge here. The new bill also doesn’t allow Shia and Ahmadiyya Muslims, who also face persecution in Pakistan, to apply for citizenship.
This bill was part of BJP’s election manifesto. This bill will also act like a prohibiting factor for Muslims to take refuge in the country whether from POK or some other neighbouring country. This bill also excludes illegal migrants of some tribal areas of Assam, Mizoram and Tripura tribal areas.
Clearly this bill is biased on the basis of religion. Discussion on this bill again started the same controversy of two nation theory like a chicken hen question.
Some say Veer Sawarkar started this in Hindu Mahasabha and then others will say Sir Syed Ahmad started this.
Nothing can be changed in the past. But our present will definitely change our future.
Why we want to revise those chapters of history which filled us with pain forever. Do we again want another riot on the basis of religion or its merely a matter of vote bank?
Can every Hindu and people of other five religions raise voice for Muslims and other tribal regions?
I think no because they don’t feel their pain but then in future we can’t expect any empathy from them. In this way seeds of hatred are sowed in the generations for each other’s religion.
Our government knows that the opinion of public can be altered very easily by presenting partial history in a very lucid manner.
Judiciary has power to interfere if any amendment of the constitution distorts the basic structure of constitution but if it remains free from the political influence! Which it should remain.
Let’s see what happens. Government can ignore mass protests from North East states but it should remain careful about their vote bank in those states also.
Lastly, I want to quote the lines by Anthony T. Hincks, “When Hatred is shared, discrimination walks in the streets”.
