A Boon or Bane - Science a matter of choice
Deepak Sharma
In the antiquity, matters beyond human comprehension were considered miraculous and to prove the same at every instance was next to impossible. The advent of Science made it possible since it is based on logic and can be scrutinized on the realms of truth. It has made the daydreams of humanity come true, hence it can be considered as an unparallel phenomenon. Science has played its part in relieving humans of their pains and sufferings, dispelling clouds of ignorance and reducing overall difficulties they confront to. Science is an untiring servant always at disposal - be it the personal or professional front. We regularly make use of the inventions and discoveries of science making lives better. We have touched to heights of space and depths of oceans making it’s used, specifically the Robots and computers. Each nation strives hard to innovate, India is not an exception either. In fact, science has been followed in India since centuries but under the disguise of religion and superstitions. Sadly forgetting the logic behind the conventions people fell prey to dogmas. Despite this India has produced eminent scientists like Sir CV Raman, Dr Homie Jahangir Bhabha, Satendernath Bose, Vikram Sarabhai, Meghnath Saha, Chandrashekher, Praful Chander Rai, Dr Hargobind Khurana, Dr APJ Abul Kalam each have their own contributions and gained international recognition. Dr Chandershekhar Venkatraman has contributed immensely in the field of Light and Sound. He investigated into the reason behind the blue colour in the ocean and his findings became popular as Raman’s effect in 1925, fetching Noble Prize in Physics for him in the year 1930. Since 1986 this day is being celebrated as National Science Day. He founded Raman Research Institute in 1919. He was bestowed with Bharat Rattan in 1994. In order to aware the students about Fundamentals of Science, to attract them to this field and make them acknowledged with the achievement of Science competitions are organised at all level of Education. All Scientific establishments related research foundations, Academies, Schools and Colleges take part in it. Lecture of Scientists, Essays Writing competitions, Quizzes are essential elements in such get-togethers. National and other Levels of Awards or Rewards are declared in order to motivate the aspirants which ensures inculcation of a scientific way of Life among masses. This instils logical thinking driving superstitions away from society.
Critics, on the other hand, exhibit various logics to express their concerns about the rising influence of science on humanity and society, even declaring that the world is resting on the heap of explosives. Science has degraded health and morality creating dismays for humanity. They blame it has reduced love and affection among society dwellers but it is not the truth. Even if there are issues that have arisen due to the narrow mindedness of human, not science. Humans can invariably distort good into bad for their selfish motive - for instance, nuclear energy can be harnessed to produce electricity but nations feel pride in making bombs out of it. It is not fair to blame Science over such preferences.
To be ahead of other nations in this tough competitive world requires novel scientific innovations Such is the zenith of science nowadays that life seems impossible without it. It has made lives easy and comfortable rising from the use of bullock carts to the use of Space crafts. Science & Technology has effectively implemented all this, across the globe, including Medicine, Education, Basic Infrastructure, Energy, construction, Information Technology and what not? New inventions have made the use of mobiles, T.V, Computer, Internet, Ovens, Refrigerators, water motors, bikes, trains available to all and Sundry. Pharmaceutical and Diagnostic researches have made it possible to cure the once thought incurable dreadful diseases.
Whatever improvement in life we have enjoyed in our daily lives have been blessings of Science & Technology; it is mandatory to walk hand in hand with this duo. We have to be dependent on the miracles of Science otherwise we wouldn’t be economically self-sufficient as an individual or a Nation. Even survival would be difficult in such cut-throat competitions. Nevertheless, the need of the hour is a constructive and positive utilization of Science giving up narrow-minded and selfish motives. Together we can make science a boon, not a bane!
