Covid 19 has spread its tentacles around the globe and no segment of society has been discriminated by this disease. But when it comes to seeking of world class treatment by Covid positive cases, the big corporate hospitals seem to be showing houseful placard to the patient and his/ her family.
Government hospitals are not saying no to admission of any patients, but all being aware of the shortage of infrastructure in public healthcare system that inturn has been the outcome of neglect of public healthcare over decades, affluent people who are ready to afford from their pocket wish to take their near and dear ones to the big corporate setups that boast of their world class healthcare facilities.
The big corporate hospitals who by roping in expensive celebrities have always been advertising to attract patients and earn rich dividends, now at this point of time seeming to be afraid of Covid patients are refusing admission of Covid positive patients citing “no Covid beds available” excuse.
No transparency about availability of beds is there. If you are influential and manage some pressures, you can get entry into these 5 star hospitals and beds are made available against hefty charging, but the feedback is that except for weeping staff visiting your ward/ room there is no special care.
The questions that flash my mind are:
1. Have the Covid patients become the undeclared untouchables of today?
2. How can an ordinary medical professional do routine medical practice these days in the scenario where most cases are asymptomatic and have the potential of infecting healthcare professional who cannot even expect any sure treatment facilities?
