Our stupidity can prove fatal, viruses spare none. Follow COVID SOPs......by Brij Bhushan Goyal
Ludhiana, April 18, 2021: Mandirs, Masjids, Gurdwaras, Churches, and other places of worship see a rush of visitors who care a fig for Covid-19 virus SOPs to follow.
When we ourselves are responsible for the spread of viruses this way, there is every possibility of getting infected at these places. We cannot blame governments if we do not get a bed in a hospital in a Covid emergency or if we do not get treated well there.
Unfortunately, our religious leaders have grossly failed in issuing any firm diktat to the followers in every religion. Further, it is becoming a fashion in social media to malign the other fellow’s irresponsible religious congregation when we all behave irrationally and are chips of the same smudged block. Pandemic viruses take the toll on human lives in a mostly secular style sparing none.
There is grim political apathy also to Covid SOPs. Though GOI and many State Govts. like Punjab have done well banning political gatherings in view of Covid surge. But, the politicians’ indifference for Covid SOPs during public meetings pinches all law-abiding citizens who are concerned for their own safety and for public well-being at large.
Indian politics is going messier by the day. Many political leaders across the party lines instead of giving the right lead to the people in a pandemic-like situation unashamedly take pride by demonstrating their attitude of caring two hoots for Covid guidelines in front of their supporters.
The decision taken by governments must be implemented sincerely even by politicians in power as many Ministers, MLAs and other leaders can be seen not wearing masks or maintaining social distance when they talk to people and media. In fact, it is not the doctors, scientists, and frontline workers who are failing the people in the war against the Covid virus, but the political leaders who are getting undone all the good work done so far.
There are multiple reports circulating about a shortage of Covid vaccines as well as their side effects. It will be in the fitness of things if state/district authorities issue advisory about some temporary after-effects for popular injections like Covishield and others. Government must understand that people will rely more on official versions than the messages circulating on official media.
There has been a general feeling in the public that often hospital staff remains hesitant in attending serious covid affected patients to their other comorbidities' issues.
This requires urgent instilling of faith in the general public besides transparency in death data reporting so that unnecessary panic is not created and the relatives of the covid patients educated about the medical regimen being followed for their kin in the hospitals.
