Politicians facing palpable resistance from the agrarian community...by Naresh Kumar
Chandigarh: Election campaigns nowadays go quite frantic in Haryana. Politicians face palpable resistance from rural voters, especially from the agrarian community. Indignant farmers found the election campaigning for parliamentary polls suitable to even the score by not letting politicians campaign -as the state restricted farmers from entering Delhi to protest against the farm laws. (nevertheless, farmers camped on the periphery of union territory.)
Back in May 2019, BJP banished all the anticipations arising given anti-incumbency talks, by bagging all ten parliamentary seats in Modi’s sack.In parliamentary polls newly established JJP which got the election symbol ‘chappal’ (later got ‘key’ as a symbol) fought on seven seats but the deposit forfeited on all seats except one.
In a string of developments, Dushyant Chautala, the face of the Jannayak Janta party averted the mass desire as he complies with BJP to get a majority in the assembly in October 2019, post-poll. JJP party which fetches its roots from INLD, cherished a minimum common program offered by the incumbent BJP that took four and half years to crumble, although they are voted by and large, ten seats as an alternate to BJP in the assembly election.
During the recent regime, apart from the farming community, certain other sections of voters parted their ways from the regime as they encountered some blatant stand-offs against the government. Be it farmers clerks or students regarding their issues as they are not satisfied with the government on certain things.
As Election Commission of India announced the general election schedule. leaders among parties out there started edging and squirming their way toward the parliamentary polls. But this time it is not going well for BJP as well as for spectacle tall guy (Dushyant Chautala) as they are facing irate farmers on the ground.
“We felt deceived during the present regime since how they brutally behaved with the farmers or be it about waving off peasants loans or about MSP.” Said a man with a green ‘Patka’ on his shoulder during a tussle between the ex-chief minister’s Caravan and the villagers on the fifth of April. The incident happened when the former deputy chief minister was on a thirteen-village visit in the Narnaund constituency when the cavalcade was forced to stop outside of the village periphery in Nara & Gamra.
When asked about the recent backlashes JJP general secretary, Digvijay Chautala labeled those incidents politically motivated and pointed the finger at Abhay Singh Chautala for his alleged connexion in the recent activities.
BJP’s nominated candidate Mohan Lal from Sonipat seat, Ashok Tanwar from Sirsa, and Ranjeet Chautala from Hisar are the men in the race who have to face backlashes as of their dormant behavior given farmers' agitation and the government's callous stance to trample the farmer’s protest. BJP’s nominated candidates met with ferocious remarks often during their public meetings or sometimes addressed boycotted by people as a demonstration of resentment to government stances on farm issues.
When ex-chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar was asked about the rising opposition of BJP & JJP leaders ahead of the general election, M.L.Khattar bawdily responded by saying “jo log virodh kr rhe hain wo sirfire hain aur unka sbko pata hai,( those who are opposing are crazy people and everyone knows about them).”
The statement from the ex-chief minister came when he was present at a public meeting in Jind for harnessing support in favor of BJP’s Sonipat parliamentary seat candidate, Mohan Lal Badoli. Further, he said that these sorts of protests will eventually benefit the BJP as ten people are opposing, and we are bracing for the support of hundreds of more people.
How is the opposition reacting to it:
Congress is a principal opposition party and INLD which has only one legislator in the assembly incessantly blames the BJP and JJP for disregarding the state interest during their regime.
Although the congress party hasn’t nominated its candidate for any of the parliamentary seats except Kurukshetra on which Aam Aadmi Party is contesting being a partner in alliance ‘INDIA’. Intra-party conflicts in Congress deter to declare candidates.
However, congress leaders are quite sure of throwing BJP out of power as Bhupender S. Hooda said for BJP, “south mai saaf, north mai half (wiped out in the south and decreased to half in the north.”) Congress leaders aren’t leaving any stone unturned to corner JJP, accusing them of being a B-Team for BJP.
INLD chief Abhay Chautala also unleashed ferocious remarks on JJP & BJP. He said that JJP as a party has lost moral ground and political space, and cited many a resignation following the irate resistance from people.
While Abhay Singh Chautala targeted the BJP for spreading putative disharmony in the state during their ten-year rule. INLD has nominated six candidates in Haryana and is assertive on garnering support for Virender Maratha if fielded by Congress on the Karnal parliamentary seat.
