Ferozepur, July 20, 2023: With an aim to save the country from environmental pollution, a student of local DCM International School has made a diaper by studying baby diapers, which will not generate harmful gases and will be biodegradable in the environment. Due to this discovery of 16-year-old Anureet Kaur, a class 11 student, her name has been nominated for the World Book of Records.
School Principal Somesh Chandra Mishra along with the teachers have expressed happiness and congratulated on this achievement of the girl student. Earlier, Anureet Kaur has been a part of Science Internship Program in Mumbai and has received Rs.50,000 as scholarship there.
Anureet Kaur said that once after taking off her sister's diaper and throwing it in the dustbin, she thought that so many diapers and sanitary pads would be consumed in the city. The whole night this thought kept running in her mind, so the next day she shared the idea with Gaurav Kalia, HOD, Science Department. She went to the city council with her mentor Gaurav Kalia and found out what the sanitary wing does with the diapers and sanitary pads thrown in the garbage and used as manure by mixing in the soil. If these diapers are burnt, three times more toxic gases are produced than common plastic, which pollutes the environment.
She thought that why not prepare such a diaper, which is helpful in environmental protection. When she found out about the material used in diapers of other companies, she came to know that the diaper contains soli authentic polymer - SAP - which is helpful in absorbing human waste for 12 to 24 hours, but it is not edible when mixed with soil and it produces gases affecting the environment.
After that she went to the Civil Hospital and also talked to the doctors there. Then she talked to a company in Mumbai and found out that such a cloth also comes which has the capacity to absorb human waste for 10 hours. She ordered the cloth from the company and consulted a child specialist doctor before making diapers and the doctor advised her to apply special cotton along with the cloth.
After that a diaper was prepared which was without soli authentic SAP and it had a mixture of cloth and cotton from a Mumbai company.
Anureet said that it took her about 19 days to prepare the entire project and one diaper cost her about Rs.17. Right now, she has made only 3 diapers and she is of the opinion that if people use this diaper, then the environment can also be saved from pollution.
Anureet Kaur said that when she was researching on this, she came to know that daily more than 1 lakh new diapers are made in the country and it is used in large numbers and due to its non-biodegradable, dirt is spreading on the earth.
