Punjab honours World Cup champions Harleen Deol, Amanjot Kaur with grand Mohali welcome
SAS Nagar (Mohali), November 7, 2025: The Punjab Government on Friday rolled out a celebratory reception for Women’s World Cup winners Harleen Deol and Amanjot Kaur at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, where families, fans and officials greeted the duo with dhol beats, flower garlands and cheers.
Representing Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and MLA Dr. Amandeep Kaur Arora led the felicitation, joined by District Planning Board Chairperson Prabhjot Kaur, Jaswant Kaur and Councillor Sarbjeet Singh Samana. Cheema said, “Our daughters have brought glory not only to Punjab but to the entire nation,” adding that the state will soon honour captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Harleen Deol and Amanjot Kaur for their historic achievement.
Meet Hayer said the title win would spark “a new revolution in women’s cricket,” noting that world‑class talent is emerging from Punjab’s towns and villages, and citing role models including Shubman Gill, Harmanpreet Kaur, Arshdeep Singh, Harleen Deol and Amanjot Kaur. Cheema also highlighted the state’s sports policy, under which players are being recognised with cash awards and government jobs to restore Punjab’s standing as a national sporting hub.
Thanking the state and the Chief Minister, Harleen Deol and Amanjot Kaur said the homecoming has inspired them to strive harder. They urged parents to support daughters in pursuing sport, and acknowledged the backing of their families, coaches and the BCCI.
Celebrations spilled onto Mohali’s roads in an open‑jeep victory procession, with fans showering petals as the players waved to the crowd. Among those present were Amanjot Kaur’s father Bhupinder Singh, grandfather Ishar Singh, sister Kamaljot and coach Nagesh Gupta; and Harleen Deol’s parents B.S. Deol and Charanjit Kaur, and brother Manjot Singh. Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, Dronacharya awardee Jiwanjot Singh Teja (Director, PIS Training Centre) and District Sports Officer Rupesh Kumar Begra also attended.
