Breaking: 10 new Judges appointed to Punjab and Haryana High Court

Chandigarh, August 4, 2025: In a significant development to strengthen the judicial system, 10 additional judges were appointed to the Punjab and Haryana High Court today, following the orders of the President of India.
The Chief Justice of the High Court administered the oath of office to the newly appointed judges during a formal swearing-in ceremony. The newly appointed judges include:
Varinder Aggarwal, Mandeep Pannu, Pramod Goel, Shalini Singh Nagpal, Amarinder Singh Garewal, Subhash Mehla, Surya Pratap Singh, Rupinderjit Chahal, Aradhna Sahni, and Yashveer Singh Rathore.
All ten judges have assumed their respective responsibilities and are expected to contribute significantly to enhancing the efficiency of the judicial process.Currently, the sanctioned strength of the Punjab and Haryana High Court is 85 judges.
However, until today, only 49 judges were serving. With these new appointments, the number of serving judges has risen to 59—though 26 seats still remain vacant
Lawyers and the general public have long demanded an increase in the number of judges to ensure faster disposal of cases. The latest appointments are expected to help reduce pendency and ensure more timely justice for litigants.
