Chandigarh, May 1, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday successfully passed a floor test in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha after moving a confidence motion during a special session of the House.
The Chief Minister moved the confidence motion to demonstrate the majority of his government, which was later passed with the support of 88 legislators.
The proceedings witnessed a complete boycott by opposition parties. Legislators from the Congress and other opposition groups remained absent from the House during the voting process.
According to Assembly records, 88 MLAs of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were present in the House during the proceedings. However, several members remained absent, including Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, Laljit Singh Bhullar, Harmit Singh Pathanmajra, Devinderjit Singh Ladi Dhos, Manjinder Singh Lalpura, and Jaswinder Singh Attari.
The successful passage of the confidence motion comes amid heightened political activity in the state, reinforcing the government’s claim of majority support in the Assembly despite opposition absence and internal absenteeism within party ranks.
