Big Breaking: ED Raids Punjab Government House After GMADA; Searches Underway in Chandigarh

Mohali/Chandigarh, September 23, 2026: Enforcement Directorate (ED) teams have continued their search operations at multiple locations in Punjab and Chandigarh. The ED search at the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) office in Mohali has continued for nearly 36 hours, with officials examining records and documents. Reports say the operation has entered its second day.
Meanwhile, another significant development has emerged from Chandigarh, where the ED has reportedly conducted a search at a Punjab Government residential house in Sector 39.
Late in the evening, a special ED team, reportedly led by a senior officer of Assistant Director rank, reached Sector 39. According to information available, the team entered Government House No. 926 after breaking open its lock and began a search operation.
The house was reportedly lying locked, which is why the ED team had to break open the lock to enter. ED officials were present at the spot and were examining documents and other material inside the government accommodation.
However, it is not yet clear to whom the house was allotted or who had been residing there.
Searches at Other Locations Too
Earlier, the ED had also searched the Chandigarh residence of a senior Punjab IAS officer, as well as the residence of a relative of a Punjab minister, according to reports. The wider ED operation covers multiple locations in Punjab, Chandigarh and Delhi.
The ongoing GMADA search is reportedly linked to an investigation into alleged irregularities involving land acquisition, property transactions, Change of Land Use (CLU) permissions and dealings between GMADA and private developers. The ED has also been examining records relating to certain real-estate projects and alleged financial irregularities.
AAP Calls ED Action a Political Conspiracy
The Aam Aadmi Party has described the ED action as a political conspiracy by the BJP-led Centre. AAP Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu alleged that the central agency's actions were aimed at creating pressure on Punjab government officers and disrupting the government's welfare and development agenda ahead of the Assembly elections. These are allegations made by AAP; the ED's investigation and the allegations under probe remain separate matters.
