Jalandhar (Punjab), May 21, 2025 – A major blackout has gripped Jalandhar's Avtar Nagar and Guru Nanak Pura East for the past 24 hours, leaving residents in distress and sparking outrage in the area.
According to reports, the power outage began on Monday evening after a short circuit in a local electricity transformer caused a fire, cutting off power supply to the entire locality. The incident has triggered significant inconvenience, especially amid rising summer temperatures.
Fire Breaks Out in Transformer Due to Short Circuit
Sources reveal that a severe fire broke out following the short circuit, posing a threat to several vehicles parked under the transformer.
However, alert residents acted swiftly, using mud and sand to control the blaze and prevent further damage. Despite their efforts, electricity supply remains disrupted.
Water Crisis Deepens Due to Power Cut
The prolonged blackout has led to an acute water shortage, leaving households without access to basic amenities. Residents have reported severe disruptions in daily life, as water motors, fans, and other essential appliances remain non-functional during the sweltering heat.
Repeated Appeals to Authorities, But No Relief
Frustrated residents claim they have contacted officials multiple times, yet no effective solution has been provided. The lack of timely response from the power department has further intensified their grievances.
Residents Demand Immediate Restoration of Power
Locals have now appealed to senior officials in the electricity department to urgently restore power to their area. "Without electricity, we have no water, no cooling, and no way to carry on with our daily routines," said one of the residents.
Will the Authorities Respond?
All eyes are now on the electricity department to see how quickly they act to resolve the issue and provide relief to the residents of this affected Jalandhar neighborhood. As the crisis continues, public anger is growing, and patience is running thin.
