Breaking: Panjab University PhD Scholar dies of electrocution

Chandigarh, July 28, 2026: A PhD scholar from Panjab University died after allegedly suffering an electric shock from a roadside electric pole during heavy rainfall in Chandigarh on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Jyoti, a doctoral student at Panjab University. According to reports, she was walking during the rain when she accidentally came into contact with an electric pole that was allegedly live due to waterlogging or an electrical fault.
She collapsed on the spot after receiving the shock. Bystanders rushed to her aid and immediately took her to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, where doctors declared her dead.
The tragic incident has left the university community in mourning, with students and faculty expressing grief over the untimely death of the research scholar.
