Chamkaur Singh sets environmental example for fellow farmers
Ferozepur, October 3, 2025: Chamkaur Singh, a progressive farmer from Mothanwala village in Guru Har Sahai block, Ferozepur, has become a source of inspiration for farmers across the district by practicing environmentally friendly farming methods.
For several years, Singh, son of Nirbhai Singh, has been cultivating wheat and other crops without burning paddy stubble or wheat residue in his fields. Instead, he manages the crop residue using modern techniques such as mulching, M.B. ploughs, and other advanced machinery, promoting sustainable agriculture while protecting the environment.
He stated that his crops have never faced any issues, and this method not only prevents air pollution but also enhances the quality of his wheat and soil health. He reported a significant improvement in soil fertility, which has led to reduced dependence on urea and other chemical fertilizers.
Appealing to fellow farmers, Chamkaur Singh emphasized following Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s philosophy by recognizing the importance of air, water, and soil. He urged farmers to avoid burning crop residue and instead incorporate it back into the soil, ensuring long-term fertility and sustainable farming practices.
Singh’s environmentally conscious approach is being recognized as a model for modern, pollution-free agriculture in the district, inspiring other farmers to adopt similar practices.
