Chandigarh Administration Enhances Public Hearing System for Better Citizen Engagement

Chandigarh, July 7, 2025: In a move aimed at fostering transparency, responsiveness, and citizen-centric governance, the Chandigarh Administration has intensified its efforts to facilitate regular public interaction and grievance redressal.
Since March 2024, Wednesdays have been reserved exclusively for public interaction in various departments. Building on this initiative, Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria recently conducted visits to multiple offices across the city to review existing public grievance mechanisms and improve service delivery.
To further institutionalise citizen engagement, the Administrator has directed that the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation; Deputy Commissioner; and Senior Superintendent of Police will hold public hearings thrice a week — every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday — from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. These sessions are intended to serve as a direct channel for residents to raise concerns, submit grievances, and receive prompt responses.
Additionally, a joint public hearing by the Deputy Commissioner and the Senior Superintendent of Police will be held every Friday at the DC Office, Sector 17, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, to address issues requiring coordinated departmental action.
It has also been mandated that no internal meetings shall be scheduled during these public hearing hours to ensure uninterrupted time for citizen interface. Any administrative meetings, if necessary, are to be arranged outside the designated public hearing slot.
The Chandigarh Administration reaffirmed its commitment to participatory governance and timely resolution of public concerns through structured and accessible platforms.
