Ludhiana (Punjab), July 5, 2025:Architect Sanjay Goel, former Chairman of the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Punjab Chapter, has called for greater government support for the construction industry and its allied sectors, citing the sector’s pivotal role in employment generation and economic development.
In a statement issued today, Goel congratulated Sanjeev Arora, MLA from Ludhiana West, on his induction as Punjab’s Cabinet Minister for Industry & Commerce, Investment Promotion, and NRI Affairs.
He expressed confidence that under Arora’s leadership, long-pending issues affecting the construction and real estate sectors would finally be addressed at the policy level. Goel emphasized that while Ludhiana continues to thrive as a major industrial hub, similar focused development and facilitation are needed across the state.
“The construction industry is no longer confined to buildings alone; it is a vast ecosystem involving architects, engineers, developers, colonisers, contractors, consultants, and lakhs of skilled and unskilled workers,” he said.
He highlighted the industry's deep integration with over 250 ancillary sectors such as cement, steel, tiles, paints, and electrical components.
“Every day, crores of rupees are invested in construction—be it housing, commercial complexes, factories, hospitals, educational institutions, or public infrastructure,” he noted.
Despite its massive economic footprint, Goel lamented the challenges the sector faces—including policy uncertainty, approval delays, financing difficulties, and insufficient incentives for sustainable construction.
He urged the Punjab Government to take a comprehensive and reform-driven approach to the sector, advocating for smoother business processes, faster approvals, and targeted support.
“With the right policies, the construction industry can act as a powerful catalyst for Punjab’s economic growth and urban transformation,” Goel concluded.
