Chandigarh: 11 September, 2016: Election apparatus is being geared up by the Deputy Commissioners of the state. Yesterday, a long meeting was held by the Election Commissioner, A.K Joti in Jalandhar to review the preparedness of the elections. Top brass of seven districts participated in the election related deliberations. A.K Joti issued various instructions to the officers for conduct of fair and free elections in the state.
The five year term of the state assembly is going to be expired on 18th March, 2017. Punjab is among the five states, where elections are going to be held next year. Goa, Manipur, Uttarkhand and Uttar Pradesh are the states which will go to polls.
Deputy Commissioners of many districts carried out surprise checks of the polling booths in their districts on Sunday. DC of Hoshiarpur, Anindita Mitra made surprise checks on large number of polling booths of the district. She said “Draft rolls have been published on 7th September. Claims and objections will be obtained till 7th October and after verification final roll will be published on 2nd January, 2017”. We are focusing on inclusion of young voters’ enrolment in the voter lists.
Anindita said “Numerous IT based Poll Management System is being developed and launched in the coming Elections. These systems are mainly used for Grievance Redressal and granting various permission for candidates and political parties”.
DC Varinder, ADC Sanyam Aggarwal & SDM Poonam Singh checking polling booth
Deputy Commissioner Mansa, Varinder Sharma along with ADC (G) Sanyam Aggarwal and SDM Poonam Singh visited numerous polling booths of the district. Varinder Sharma said “The three main IT Modules are being implemented in the coming elections. They are Samadhan (Public Grievance Redressal), Suvidha (Single Window Clearance for Political Parties & candidates and Sugam (vehicle management)”.
Varinder Kumar Sharma said, the youths between 18-19 years will be encouraged at length for enrolling as voter and they will be made aware about the importance of right to franchise vote during the elections.
DC Sumeet Jarangal inspecting polling booth in Muktsar
Deputy Commissioner Muktsar, Dr Sumeet Jarangal also inspected large number of polling booths of the district. He said on the basis of eligibility on attaining the age of 18 years as on 1.1.2017, anyone who has reached 18 years age can be enrolled as voter from September 7 to October 7, during the revision of voters list schedule.
Dr Sumeet further said, the claims and objections will also be invited by all the EROs in forms No.6, 7, 8 and 8 A from September 7, 2016 to October 7, 2016 and take action for deletion and addition of votes. For deletion of votes, a proper seven days’ notice may be given and it should be deleted only after completing all the formalities.
