Ferozepur Advocates continue Chain Hunger Strike against LADC Policy
Ferozepur, July 31, 2026: The agitation by the District Bar Association, Ferozepur, against the Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) Policy continues to intensify, with a fresh group of advocates sitting on a chain hunger strike as part of the ongoing protest.
Advocates Kulwinder Kaur, Prabhjot Kaur, Indu, Suman Lata, Damanpreet Kaur, Varinder Sran, Sukhmander Singh, Sandeep Singh, Rajesh Mehta and Neel Rattan Sharma, Secretary, District Bar Association, are among those participating in the latest phase of the hunger strike.
The chain hunger strike is being held as part of the indefinite “No Work Day” agitation being observed by the Ferozepur Bar in coordination with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Bar Associations of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. Punjab Bar Associations have been observing the indefinite “No Work” protest since July 7, demanding withdrawal of the LADC Policy.
The Ferozepur Bar had earlier announced that the agitation would continue until the LADC Policy is withdrawn or terminated. The Association has also been organising district-level hunger strikes on a rotational basis to intensify the campaign.
The latest development comes days after Ferozepur advocates took out a protest rally with a convoy of around 100 cars and motorcycles through the city, carrying black flags and raising slogans against the policy. The rally formed part of the wider state and nationwide agitation by the legal fraternity.
The Joint Action Committee has alleged that the LADC framework adversely affects the professional independence, dignity and livelihood of advocates and has called for restoration of the earlier panel-based system of providing legal aid. The committee has also appealed to Bar Associations and the legal fraternity across the country to join the nationwide indefinite “No Work” movement.
The Ferozepur Bar, however, continues its peaceful agitation and has reiterated its resolve to carry forward the protest until its demand for withdrawal of the LADC Policy is addressed.
