Harpal Cheema, Ravjot Singh Meet Employee Unions; Assure Timely Redressal of Demands
Cheema Directs Department to Submit Proposal for Addressing Legitimate Demands
Chandigarh, July 8, 2025:
Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, who heads the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Employee Grievances, on Monday chaired a crucial meeting with various unions from the Local Government Department. The deliberations, which lasted over three hours, were also attended by Local Government Minister Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar.
During the meeting, representatives from several unions—including the Safaee Mazdoor Federation Sewerman Union, Punjab Water Supply & Sewerage Board Outsourced Worker Union, Municipal Mulazam Action Committee, and other groups—presented their concerns regarding job security, regularization, and benefits for outsourced and contractual employees.
Finance Minister Cheema directed the Local Government Department to prepare a detailed and time-bound proposal to resolve the key issues flagged by the unions. He also asked officials to examine the feasibility of extending group insurance benefits to these employees.
Reaffirming the Bhagwant Mann-led government’s commitment to employee welfare, Cheema assured union leaders that all legitimate demands would be considered seriously and resolved in a just manner.
Senior officials present included Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) Alok Shekhar, Additional Chief Secretary (Local Government) Tejveer Singh, CEO PMIDC Deepti Uppal, and Additional Secretary (Personnel) Navjot Kaur.
Among the union representatives who participated in the meeting were Raja Hans, Naresh Kumar, and Juginderpal (Safaee Mazdoor Federation); Gurdev Singh, Baldev Singh, and Amit Kumar (Outsourced Worker Union); Gopal Thapar and Kulwant Singh Saini (Municipal Mulazam Action Committee); Sher Singh Khanna and Gagandeep Singh (Contractor Workers Union); Vinod Bitta, Surinder Tona, and Pawan Godyal (Punjab Safai Mazdoor Federation); Sobha Singh and Sahib Singh (Contractual Fire Sewermen); and Amanjot Singh Punjab (Outsourced Fire Sewermen Union).
