Chandigarh, July 8, 2025 –
Taking swift action over the tragic death of a youth due to electrocution, Haryana Energy Minister Anil Vij on Tuesday suspended six officials of the electricity department, including an SDO, for negligence in Karnal district’s Haibatpur village.
The suspended officials include Mohit (SDO), Sunil (JE), and linemen Deepak, Ajit, Satyawan, and Vikas. The action follows the death of Rajesh Kumar, who came in contact with a low-hanging high-voltage wire while working in a field on July 6.
Speaking to media in Chandigarh, Minister Anil Vij said an FIR has also been registered at Nigdu Police Station based on a complaint by Pradeep Kumar, who stated that repeated complaints were made to the SDO, JE, and linemen about dangerously low-hanging wires in the field. However, no corrective action was taken, leading to the fatal incident.
“The wire was hanging just five feet above the ground. Despite multiple complaints, the department failed to act, resulting in this avoidable tragedy,” Vij said.
He termed the incident a serious lapse of duty and confirmed that the six employees have been immediately suspended for their negligence. The Minister emphasized that such incidents will not be tolerated and assured that accountability will be strictly enforced across departments.
