Himachal: Former Congress MLA shot, security officer critical

Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh), March 14, 2025 – Former Congress MLA Bambar Thakur was shot by unidentified assailants at his official residence in Bilaspur. The attackers fired multiple rounds, leaving Thakur injured and his Personal Security Officer (PSO) in critical condition.Following the attack, Thakur was initially moved to a safe location before being shifted to a hospital.
He has now been referred to IGMC Shimla, as per his request, while his PSO has been taken to AIIMS Bilaspur due to severe injuries. Reports suggest that nearly 12 rounds were fired during the assault.
SP Sandeep Dhawal personally took charge of the situation, and police teams are actively scanning CCTV footage to trace the attackers. The police have launched a manhunt to nab those responsible for the incident.
The attack occurred at the government residence of Thakur’s wife. During the gunfire, Thakur reportedly hid behind his vehicle to save himself, while his PSO took two bullets while trying to protect him.
This is not the first attack on Bambar Thakur. On February 23, 2024, he was assaulted outside a railway construction company office, leading to 11 arrests. Later, on June 20, 2024, gunshots were fired outside a court complex at the prime accused of the earlier attack.
Thakur’s son and four others were arrested in that case. Additionally, on January 9, 2025, police re-arrested the February attack's prime suspect in a cartridge case.
Bambar Thakur had previously expressed concerns over threats to his life, alleging that a deadly attack was being planned against him. This latest incident has once again raised serious security concerns.The police continue their investigation, and further updates are awaited.
