Indore, Surat, Navi Mumbai Join Super Swachh League; President Confers Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards

New Delhi, July 17, 2025 – The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on Thursday conferred the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards at a grand ceremony organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
This year’s awards marked the emergence of a new generation of clean cities, with Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Lucknow being crowned India’s Top Swachh Shehars. Indore, Surat, and Navi Mumbai entered the premier Super Swachh League, reinforcing their dominance in urban sanitation.
In total, 43 National Awards were presented, including the Best Ganga Town Award to Prayagraj and Best Cantonment Board Award to Secunderabad Cantonment. GVMC Visakhapatnam, Jabalpur, and Gorakhpur were honoured as Best SafaiMitra Surakshit Shehars for safeguarding sanitation workers’ dignity.
A special recognition was awarded to the Uttar Pradesh Government, Prayagraj Mela Adhikari, and Prayagraj Municipal Corporation for exceptional solid waste management during the Mahakumbh, which hosted an estimated 66 crore visitors.
As part of this year’s initiatives, the Swachh City Partnership was launched, wherein the 78 top-performing cities will mentor underperforming counterparts within their respective states. Union Minister Manohar Lal stressed the importance of collaborative growth, adding, “It is time to bring the low-performing cities on top.”

To further boost urban waste processing, the government also announced the Accelerated Dumpsite Remediation Program, a year-long initiative starting August 15, 2025, to fast-track legacy waste clearance and enhance scientific waste treatment capacity.
President Murmu, applauding the achievements, praised the mission’s focus on the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and stated, “Waste is best – it strengthens the circular economy.” She acknowledged the transformation in citizen behaviour, noting that Swachhata has now become a part of India’s ‘swabhav and sanskaar’.
The President also appreciated the strides made by cities with populations below 1 lakh, school interventions, and zero-waste colonies. “The Viksit Bharat of 2047 will set an example for the world,” she concluded.
Secretary Srinivas Katikithala of MoHUA reflected on the decade-long journey of the Swachh Bharat Mission, highlighting its role in shaping cleaner, more responsible urban environments and announced the roadmap for the mission till 2047.
The event also saw the digital launch of the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Results Dashboard, showcasing city rankings and achievements through interactive visuals. As a tribute to sustainability, the President was gifted a handcrafted sarangi made from recycled material, embodying the ‘waste to wealth’ spirit.
