Ludhiana (Punjab), March 3, 2025: In a major push to combat drug abuse, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal has directed Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs) and Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to roll out an extensive awareness and prevention campaign in their respective areas, working closely with law enforcement.
During a high-level meeting on Monday, DC Jorwal stressed the importance of engaging communities in the fight against drugs. As part of this initiative, public meetings, rallies, street plays (nukkad nataks), seminars, marathons, and marches will be organized across wards and villages to raise awareness and encourage public participation.
He emphasized that officials, along with their police counterparts, will conduct direct interactions with residents to gather valuable suggestions and strengthen community collaboration. He urged citizens to actively support the government’s mission to eliminate drugs from society.
Jorwal also instructed officials to inspect OOAT (Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment) centers and rehabilitation facilities to ensure proper treatment and support for those battling addiction.
He reaffirmed that strict action is already being taken against drug traffickers while efforts continue to expand treatment and rehabilitation services.
“The fight against drugs requires collective action from the government, police, and the community. We must create awareness, ensure proper treatment for addicts, and take strict action against smugglers to safeguard our future generations,” Jorwal asserted.
Prominent officials present at the meeting included ADCs Amarjit Bains, Rohit Gupta, Kulpreet Singh, Shikha Bhagat, and SDMs Simardeep Singh, Jasleen Kaur Bhullar, Poonampreet Kaur, Dr. Baljinder Singh Dhillon, Rajnish Arora, Karandeep Singh, Pardeep Bains, and Assistant Commissioner Payal Goyal, among others.
