Nawanshahr: District-level prize distribution held for sustainability leadership program

Nawanshahr (Punjab), March 13, 2025: The District-Level Prize Distribution Function for the Sustainability Leadership Program was held at PM SHRI GSSS Langroya, celebrating young changemakers dedicated to the Clean India Mission.
The event was graced by Rajiv Verma, PCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, as the chief guest, while Amarjit Khatkar, Deputy District Education Officer, presided over the function.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Ankurjeet Singh emphasized that the Sustainability Leaders Program aligns with the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, encouraging students to actively engage in waste management and environmental responsibility.
The program includes live sessions, webinars, field visits, and hands-on projects, fostering a sense of responsible citizenship among students.
In SBS Nagar district, 1,050 students from 21 schools, along with their 21 nodal teachers, participated in the initiative.During the event, District Nodal Officer, 21 School Nodal Teachers, and 63 students who secured the top three positions were honored for their achievements.
The Sustainability Leadership Program is a structured internship initiative, designed by Suhani Sharma, a Class XI student of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh. Launched on October 1, 2024, it is aimed at students in grades 8th-12th.
The Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC) has mapped participating schools with Urban Local Bodies, enabling Community Facilitators to conduct field visits and educate students on reducing single-use plastic and waste segregation at the source, promoting sustainable waste management practices.
On this occasion, notable attendees included Guneet, Pardeep Kaur, Baldeep Singh, Barinder Kaur, Rajni Bala, Kalpna Bika, Parwinder Kaur, Harinder Singh, Sumeet, Sapna, and Amandeep Kaur, along with school staff and dignitaries.
The event highlighted the importance of youth participation in environmental conservation and recognized the outstanding efforts of students and educators in driving change.
