Chandigarh, June 30, 2025 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab of indulging in political vendetta and announced the launch of a people’s campaign to expose its alleged corruption, land scams, and betrayal of public trust. The announcement came during the first meeting of the reconstituted SAD core committee, presided over by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
The committee resolved to fight on key public issues, including the forcible acquisition of fertile farmland and the protection being given to corrupt AAP leaders. It also named senior leader Gulzar Singh Ranike as the party’s Coordinator for the upcoming Tarn Taran byelection.
The meeting directed SAD observers to expedite the process of electing district presidents and forming booth-level teams. In a symbolic move aligned with the directives of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the committee also decided to lead a plantation drive with a target of planting one lakh saplings in July. The campaign will be spearheaded by Sukhbir Singh Badal.
“Emergency-Like Conditions in Punjab”
Addressing the media after the meeting, senior leader Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema alleged that Punjab was witnessing “emergency-like conditions” under the remote control of Delhi’s AAP leadership, particularly Arvind Kejriwal. He said opposition leaders were being silenced, and pointed to the case against Bikram Singh Majithia, who he claimed is being targeted for consistently exposing the government’s failings.
Dr. Cheema said the disproportionate assets case against Majithia would collapse like the earlier NDPS case, which SAD has always maintained was politically motivated. “We will continue to expose the AAP government which has failed to fulfil its promises. Law and order is at an all-time low, with gangsters and drug mafias ruling unchecked. The state’s governance has been outsourced to outsiders in top positions,” he charged.
Land Acquisition and Corruption Allegations
The core committee condemned the AAP government’s plan to forcibly acquire 24,000 acres of land in Ludhiana and hundreds of acres elsewhere in the state. Dr. Cheema said the move would displace thousands of farmers and farm labourers and accused the government of engineering a land scam. “This is an open loot of Punjab’s land. We will not allow it to succeed,” he asserted.
The committee also slammed the AAP’s double standards on corruption, citing the case of former minister Dr. Vijay Singla. It questioned why Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, despite having claimed to possess evidence, has failed to make it a matter of record or pursue prosecution.
Support for Diljit Dosanjh
The SAD core committee also expressed solidarity with actor Diljit Dosanjh, who is currently facing backlash over the Sardaar Ji 3 controversy. The party said Dosanjh was being unfairly targeted and called for an end to the “politics of hate”, urging society to stand against unjust persecution of cultural icons.
The party concluded its meeting with a resolve to intensify its campaign on ground-level issues affecting the people of Punjab and hold the ruling government accountable for its failures.
