PAU holds two-day training course on beekeeping

Ludhiana(Punjab), September 16, 2026:The Department of Entomology at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organised a two-day training course for advanced beekeepers, focusing on modern beekeeping practices, honey productivity, processing and marketing.
The valedictory session of the course was held at the Skill Development Centre, with Director of Extension Education Dr Makhhan Singh Bhullar as the chief guest. He discussed the extension activities undertaken by the Directorate and their impact on farmers. He urged the trainees to share accurate and reliable information with farmers after consulting experts.
Head of the Department of Entomology Dr Manmeet Brar Bhullar said the training programme marked the beginning of a series of 10 courses aimed at providing updated information on improving honey production and the management of honeybee colonies.
Course Director Dr Jaspal Singh said 23 trainees participated in the programme, including 11 women. The participants received hands-on training in queen bee management, seasonal management of colonies and bee boxes, and techniques to enhance honey productivity.
The trainees were also briefed on modern methods of honey processing, packaging and marketing. Technical aspects of forming Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and self-help groups were discussed to help beekeepers develop the profession along commercial lines.
Associate Director, Skill Development, Dr Rupinder Kaur Toor and Director, IHA, Namrata Khanna also addressed the trainees. Davor’s Associate Manager Vikram Singh shared practical suggestions on honey marketing.
Dr Amit Chaudhary, Dr Bharti Mahendru and Dr Lavleesh Garg were among the course coordinators.
