Kewal Singh Dhillon condemns BR Ambedkar statue vandalism, attack on BJP leaders in Hoshiarpur

Chandigarh, September 16, 2026: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Wednesday condemned the alleged vandalism of Dr BR Ambedkar’s statue at Barian Kalan village in Hoshiarpur and the reported attack on senior BJP leader and former Union minister Vijay Sampla and Punjab BJP SC Morcha president Sheetal Angural during a protest at the site.
According to police, unidentified persons allegedly threw stones at the statue near the village grain market in the early hours of Tuesday, damaging its face and a finger of the raised hand. An FIR has been registered against unidentified persons and police are examining CCTV footage to identify those involved.
Condemning the incident, Dhillon said the alleged desecration of Ambedkar’s statue was not merely an insult to the architect of the Indian Constitution but also an affront to constitutional and democratic values.
He also condemned the reported attack on Sampla and Angural, who had reached the village to protest the incident, and demanded that those responsible for both the vandalism and the alleged attack on BJP leaders be identified and arrested.
Dhillon alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab had failed to maintain law and order and protect the sentiments of different sections of society.
He said the reported incident was particularly concerning as it came days after a similar incident involving an Ambedkar statue in Punjab. He demanded strict legal action against those responsible and called for their arrest at the earliest.
The protest at Barian Kalan later witnessed a confrontation between BJP and Bahujan Samaj Party workers, during which Sampla was reportedly injured.
