Sukhjeet Pal Singh takes charge as PAU Registrar, assumes VC’s current duties

Ludhiana (Punjab), September 16, 2026: Sukhjeet Pal Singh, IAS, on Wednesday assumed charge as the new Registrar of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, and took over the current duties of the university’s Vice Chancellor.
Singh, a 2018-batch IAS officer of the Punjab cadre, holds a Master’s degree in Economics. During his administrative career, he has served in key positions in the state government, including Additional Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, and Additional Secretary, Housing and Urban Development.
Addressing PAU officers during an interaction meeting following his assumption of charge, Singh described his appointment as an honour and said the university had established a distinguished legacy through its research and service to the farming community.
He appreciated the contribution of PAU’s domain experts and called upon the university community to maintain the momentum of research, teaching and extension activities as agriculture faces emerging challenges.
Singh emphasised a student-centric approach and said strengthening the university’s teaching, research and extension ecosystem would remain a priority, with students at the centre of its activities. He also highlighted good governance, inclusivity and innovation as key principles for his tenure.
Stressing the importance of collective effort, Singh said nation-building was not the responsibility of any one individual but the result of contributions from everyone. He quoted Helen Keller: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
During the interaction, PAU deans and directors briefed the new Registrar on the university’s achievements in teaching, research and extension, besides outlining upcoming initiatives and priorities.
Dr Vishal Bector, Associate Director (Institution Relations), coordinated the interaction between the new Registrar and the university’s academic leadership.
Established in 1962, Punjab Agricultural University has played a significant role in Punjab’s agricultural development and is widely associated with the Green Revolution in the state. The university has since emerged as a major centre for agricultural education, research and extension in India.
