SDM inspects Sutlej embankments in Ferozepur villages, reviews flood readiness
Ferozepur, July 8, 2025: In view of the rising water level in the Sutlej River during the monsoon season and the potential threat of floods, the district administration under Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma is ensuring robust preparedness to tackle any such situation and prevent loss of life and property.
SDM Ferozepur Gurmeet Singh, during his inspection of villages located along the Sutlej River—including Kalu Wala, Tendhi Wala, Nihale Wala, Kilche Wala, and Husaini Wala—reviewed the water level and assessed the condition of river embankments.
Speaking on the occasion, the SDM said that heavy rainfall is expected in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh in the coming days. He stressed that precautionary measures are being implemented to effectively handle potential flood-like situations due to the anticipated rise in the Sutlej River’s water level.
He also directed the concerned officials to strengthen the embankments along the river. The SDM interacted with the villagers, listened to their concerns, and appealed for their cooperation in maintaining the embankments.
He also informed that a meeting has been held with officials from various departments to ensure the availability of boats, life jackets, floodlights, searchlights, and the cleaning of drainage and sewerage systems. Instructions have also been issued to establish flood control rooms at the district and sub-division levels for Monsoon Season 2025.
Tehsildar Ferozepur Harminder Singh, Executive Engineer (Drainage) Rakesh Soni, and other officials were also present during the visit.
