Jodhpur (Rajasthan), February 22, 2026: In a tragic incident reported from Manai village in Jodhpur, two sisters allegedly died after consuming a poisonous substance just hours before their wedding ceremonies, according to media reports.
Shobha (25) and Vimla (23) were scheduled to be married on Saturday. Preparations for the double wedding were underway late Friday night, with festivities continuing at the family’s residence.
As per media reports, both women went to sleep around midnight after the celebrations. In the early hours of Saturday, their health reportedly deteriorated, prompting family members to rush them to a private hospital in Jodhpur. Doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Reports further suggest that funeral preparations had begun at the house before police were informed. Upon receiving information, authorities reached the spot, halted the last rites, and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. The bodies were later handed over to the family.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the sisters may have consumed a toxic substance. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report.
No suicide note has reportedly been recovered from the scene. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The sudden deaths have left the village in shock, as a household preparing for wedding celebrations was plunged into grief within a few hours.
