Relief to Punjab Govt, HC refuses to stay Panchayat Polls in the entire state, imposes partial stay

Chandigarh, October 9, 2024: In a relief to the Punjab government, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has refused to stay Panchayat polls in the entire state and imposed stay on only those villages fro which the persons filed petitions in the HC seeking stay of the poll process on a number of grounds. The court heard the case in detail and ordered only partial stay.
Around 250 petitions were filed in the HC. The stay is applicable to only Panchayats related to the petitioners.
Advocate Manpreet Sidhu informed that the next Hearing will be on 14th October & the state has been asked to file its reply on the next date.
