Nehru Yuva Kendra & NSS holds ‘Mera Yuva Bharat Padayatra’ to honour martyrs
Ferozepur, March 22, 2025: On the occasion of Shaheedi Diwas, a ‘Mera Yuva Bharat’ Padayatra’ was organized at Hussainiwala Border, Ferozepur, by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and National Service Scheme (NSS) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The event was held under the leadership of Paramjit Singh Raj, Director, NYKS Punjab and Chandigarh, Dr. Ashok Sharoti, Program Advisor, and Jai Bhagwan, Regional Director, NSS Chandigarh.
The Padayatra was dedicated to the supreme sacrifices of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev, and Shaheed Rajguru. Captain Taranjit Singh of the 5th Madras Regiment, Hussainiwala, was the chief guest at the event.
Addressing the gathering, Paramjit Singh Raj emphasized that the primary objective of the march was to educate youth about the sacrifices made by martyrs for India’s freedom.
Captain Taranjit Singh commended the Mera Bharat Volunteers, stating that the nation must always remember and honour the great martyrs whose sacrifices granted us freedom. Dr. Ashok Sharoti inspired the youth to understand the significance of these sacrifices and integrate their values into national identity and social responsibility.
According to District Youth Officer Manisha Rani, the Padayatra commenced from Hussainiwala Border, passing through Gurdwara Main Road Bareke, and concluded at Government Senior Secondary School Bareke, with around 500 volunteers participating. The event featured slogans in remembrance of the martyrs, creating a highly emotional and patriotic atmosphere.
The program also included a tribute ceremony, where attendees garlanded the portraits of the martyrs. The family of Shaheed Sipahi Gopal Singh was honoured with a shawl as a mark of respect.
Prominent attendees included Deputy Director Rashmeet Kaur, District Youth Officers Rahul Saini, Sarbjit Singh, and Komal Nigam, along with Program and Accounts Assistant Joginder Singh, Bhanuj, Rishiv Singla, and Taranjit Singh.
