Catch the Rain-2025 nationwide campaign launched from Haryana on World Water Day

Chandigarh, March 22, 2025- On the occasion of World Water Day, Haryana witnessed a historic moment as a nationwide campaign for water conservation, Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain-2025, was launched from district Panchkula.
The campaign was officially inaugurated by Union Jal Shakti Minister, Sh. C.R. Patil and Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini. Besides this, several projects were inaugurated and foundation stones were laid under water conservation, water supply schemes and cleanliness campaigns. Irrigation and Water Resources Minister, Smt. Shruti Choudhry was also present during the event.
At a national-level programme held at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula, Union Jal Shakti Minister, Sh. C.R. Patil and Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini launched the Mukhyamantri Jal Sanchay Yojana for Haryana. Under Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain-2025, various initiatives such as ‘Jal-Jangal-Jan: Ek Prakritik Bandhan Abhiyan’, (Water-Forest-People: The Intrinsic Bond campaign), Water Resource Atlas 2025, Integrated Water Resource Action Plan (2025-27), Online Canal Water Management System, and Best Practices under JSA-CTR were also launched.
Union Jal Shakti Minister Sh. C.R Patil and Haryana Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini inaugurated various water conservation works in villages Mandola, Duloth, Badopur, Kheri, and Dokhera of Mahendragarh district, Haryana under Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain-2025. Besides this, the foundation stone for 400 artificial groundwater recharge structures was also laid.
Similarly, the Solar Power Integrated Micro Irrigation Project was inaugurated in village Devdhar and Begumpur of district Yamunanagar, village Julani Khera of district Kaithal, village Pahari of district Bhiwani, village Akoli and village Mandlana of district Mahendragarh. Besides this, in Ferozepur Jhirka, ranneywell-based water supply projects were inaugurated in 52 villages and 5 dhanis to increase water supply. In the Pataudi Assembly constituency, 24 villages and 9 dhanis canal based projects for increasing water supply were inaugurated.
Under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural), the Union Jal Shakti Minister and the Haryana Chief Minister inaugurated Solid waste management projects in Panchkula. These included 9 solid waste management sheds, 103 soak pits, and 21 community sanitation complexes.
Water warriors honored for their contribution to water conservation efforts
During the programme, water warriors were honored for their remarkable contribution in the field of water conservation. Under the progressive farmer category, Sh. Rajkumar Mehra from Kurukshetra was honored for natural farming, Sh. Kushal Nehra from village Sukhpura, Yamunanagar for crop diversification and Sh. Vikas Choudhary from Taroari, Karnal for the use of DSR technology.
Similarly, for the best Sarpanch in water conservation, Smt. Bharti, Pakhal, Faridabad was honored for promoting drip irrigation, Sh. Rattan Pal Singh, Nirpur Rajput, Narnaul for the rejuvenation of the pond and Sh. Jasmer Singh, Sultanpur, Karnal for the rainwater harvesting system.
Under the Atal Bhujal Yojana, Smt. Rachna Ramdahri, Birthe, Bihari, Kaithal, Smt. Suman, Bairan, Bhiwani and Smt. Gurpreet Kaur, Jagmlera, Sirsa were honored for the best Bhujal Saheli.
In the Best Women Self-Help Group category, Smt. Pushpa from Dhourang, Yamunanagar, Smt. Kajal Sharma from Morni, Panchkula, and Smt. Sarita Devi from Nayi Basti Nalvi, Kurukshetra, were recognized for their efforts in water conservation and awareness campaigns.
Furthermore, under the Best Village Water and Sanitation Committees category for water conservation, Sh. Labh Singh Sarpanch, Jamba, Kaithal, Sh. Pervash Kumar, Chairman, Kalyana Kurukshetra and Smt. Vikramjeet Kaur, Chairperson Nilokheri Karnal were felicitated.
In the programme, for the Best Water Users Association, Sh. Panchram, Tapriyan, Panchkula were felicitated for Kuhl based Integrated Micro Irrigation Project, Sh. Sachin Walia, Partap Nagar, Yamunanagar for promoting canal water for micro irrigation system and Sh. Jitender, Pharpur Minor, Kurukshetra for promoting canal water for micro irrigation systems.
Similarly, the Best NGO award was given to Smt. Shubhi Kesarwani, GuruJal, NGO for promoting groundwater recharge and restoration of freshwater lakes and Dr. Krishna Kumari Arya, Mission Mahendragarh Apna Jal (MMAJ) for improving drinking water problem.
