Ferozepur gears up for monsoon: DC reviews flood preparedness with key departments

Ferozepur, April 15, 2025: To review preparedness measures for a possible flood situation in the district, a high-level meeting with officials from various departments, including Irrigation and Drainage was held by Deepshikha Sharma, Deputy Commissioner. She directed all departments to complete their preparations well before the onset of the monsoon season.
Emphasizing the importance of preventive steps, the DC instructed concerned departments to ensure thorough cleaning of drains, canals, and ponds across the district. She also called for the immediate establishment of a flood control room.
To mitigate the impact of potential floods, instructions were issued for arrangements related to medical facilities, food supplies, electricity, relief camps, transportation, police patrolling, and uninterrupted telephone services. Departments were told to prioritize these essential services.
Departments such as Mandi Board, Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, Food and Civil Supplies, and Panchayati Raj were asked to ensure early arrangements for fodder, vaccination of livestock, and availability of drinking water. The Roadways Department was directed to provide floating tubes and ensure deployment of trained swimmers from BSF, Punjab Police, and Home Guards.
The DC also instructed Sub-Divisional Magistrates to visit flood-prone villages to assess on-ground preparedness and ensure readiness of revenue officials, patwaris, and field staff under their jurisdiction. She emphasized the need for support from BSF, Army, Home Guards, Civil Defence, and volunteer organizations, warning that any negligence in this matter would not be tolerated.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Nidhi Kumud Bambha, SDM Ferozepur Divya P, SDM Zira Gurmeet Singh, and officers from various departments were present at the meeting.
