Shimla (Punjab), April 15, 2025: Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri has made a strong statement asserting the state's claim over the Shanan Power Project, declaring that Himachal will not back down on the issue.
Speaking to reporters, Agnihotri said, “The Shanan power project is ours and is built on our soil. We are not going to retreat even an inch on this issue.”
He emphasized that the lease period of the project has expired, and it is now time for the Punjab government to show maturity and vacate the project site voluntarily.
The 110 MW Shanan Power House, located in Jogindernagar, Himachal Pradesh, has been at the center of a long-standing ownership dispute between Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. The power project was commissioned in the pre-independence era and has been under Punjab’s control under a long-term lease.
