Punjab traders’ body Chairman meets traders, promises solutions, growth amid revenue gains
Faridkot, May 30, 2025: Chairman of the Punjab State Traders Commission (Excise and Taxation Department), Anil Thakur, emphasised today that the Punjab government is committed to providing a favourable and business-friendly environment for traders and entrepreneurs across the state.
Addressing a meeting held at the Ashoka Chakra Meeting Hall in Faridkot, Thakur engaged with various traders and business owners to discuss their issues and promote coordination between the excise and GST departments and the trading community. Local MLA Gurditt Singh Sekhon was also present at the event.
Thakur highlighted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab has achieved a 62% increase in GST revenue and a 63% rise in excise revenue. He assured that the government is making every effort to address the legitimate concerns and demands of traders and entrepreneurs. Thakur urged excise and GST department officials to take concrete steps to address the shortcomings in tax collection. He encouraged traders to pay their taxes honestly and on time to contribute to the state’s growth and prosperity.
He further noted that, following the Chief Minister's directives, the Commission and departments are actively working to foster a supportive and cooperative environment for trade and business in Punjab. He instructed the GST officials present to immediately address any issues raised by the business community and ensure prompt hearings and solutions.
MLA Gurditt Singh Sekhon praised Anil Thakur for acting as a bridge between the government and the business community. Sekhon noted that Thakur has been visiting different districts to listen to traders’ concerns first-hand, working to resolve them at the government level. He emphasised that all government departments and wings are dedicated to finding viable solutions to traders’ problems, urging traders to reach out for assistance if needed. He assured them that every suggestion would be taken seriously to ensure effective resolutions.
