Punjab Olympic Association pays tribute to legendary Sports Administrator and Political Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa

Chandigarh, May 30, 2025: The office-bearers of the Punjab Olympic Association (POA), led by its president Brahm Mohindra and secretary general Raja KS Sidhu, paid tribute to their former president and stalwart of Punjab politics, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, who passed away on Wednesday night. He was 89 years old.
His prayer meeting will be held tomorrow at his native village, Ubhawal, in Sangrur district.
Dhindsa served as the president of the POA for an impressive 41 years, from 1978 to 2019. He also held the position of president of the Cycling Federation of India during his long and distinguished career in sports administration.
In addition to his contributions to sports, Dhindsa had a notable political career. He served as a member of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha and also held the position of Union Sports Minister. At the state level, he served as a cabinet minister in the Punjab government.
Dhindsa played a crucial role in securing land for the POA Bhawan in Mohali.In recognition of his contributions, the convention hall at the POA Bhawan has been named after him, honoring his legacy as Punjab’s legendary sports administrator.
“The state has lost a great sports administrator and a visionary. I am privileged to have worked with him in the POA and learned a lot from him,” said POA secretary general and CEO Raja KS Sidhu.
