Students' Org. Satth slams proposal to rename Panjab University, calls it attack on Punjab’s identity
Chandigarh, May 31, 2025 — Student organization Satth has strongly condemned the recent move by Punjab University Campus Student Council President Anurag Dalal, who wrote a letter to the Vice Chancellor proposing to change the name of Punjab University to Punjab and Haryana University.
In a statement released today, Satth criticized the proposal as a "foolish act" and declared that not a single letter in the name of Punjab University would be allowed to change.
The organization accused Dalal of being an agent of politicians in Haryana and warned Punjab’s youth about supporting such figures, labeling their actions as detrimental to Punjab’s interests.

“Whether it’s BJP, Congress, or any other pro-Centre party, none of them are working in Punjab’s favor,” the statement read.
“These parties have consistently acted against Punjab’s interests. Punjab University is part of our cultural and historical legacy — it originated in Lahore and moved to Chandigarh. Through Punjab University, Punjab has a historical claim over Chandigarh.”
Satth further emphasized that any alteration to the university’s name or structure is a direct attack on Punjab’s rights.
They appealed to all political and social factions in Punjab to unite in defending Punjab University and asserting Punjab’s rightful claim over Chandigarh.
The organization also made a strong appeal to Punjab’s youth, especially those supporting pro-Centre parties for personal gains, urging them to recognize the larger agenda at play.
“You are being used as pawns to undermine Punjab’s interests. It’s time to turn back towards Punjab-centric politics,” the statement said.
In conclusion, Satth issued a challenge to all elements acting against Punjab’s interests from within Punjab University: “Every such move will be met with fierce resistance. Punjab University belongs to Punjab — any betrayal of this truth will not be tolerated.”
